Stop the War on Salt

Mark Sisson sets the record straight on the demonized element and blood pressure.
The salt debate rages on outside these halls, but I've never really opened MDA's doors to the tempest (beyond a short dalliance several years ago). Today, though, I am. We've likely all consumed a fair bit of sodium chloride over the past holiday weekend, and I imagine a few of us are wondering whether that's a problem or not. Ever timely, reader John has written in with his salt story and a simple question: how much salt is suitable for humans?

Here's his question: Read more

An Aspirin a Day? No Way

Margaret Durst discusses four natural, safe alternatives to aspirin.
K is for klotting – which doesn’t really start with a ‘k’, but it’s what I want to write about. Many people take an aspirin a day to prevent stroke and heart attack based on aspirin’s ability to thin the blood and prevent blood clots.

Most alternative doctors have been against aspirin for a long time because it damages the stomach lining and causes kidney and liver damage. Aspirin is responsible for a significant number of emergency room visits because it causes gastrointestinal bleeding.

New studies are now showing that an aspirin a day actually increases risk of stroke and heart attack in 40 percent of the people who take it. Research is also showing that long term use of aspirin increases your risk of macular degeneration and cataracts by as much as 44 percent. Read more

Is the 2 Meal a Day Plan Right for You?

Caloric restriction is the only proven strategy to significantly increase lifespan, and, of course, it's the only way to lose weight. One of the easiest ways to reduce your calories is to eat fewer meals. You can skip either dinner or breakfast, and eat regularly for the other two meals, and end up eating fewer calories without feeling deprived. Based on history and anthropological studies, this seems to be the natural human meal plan.
What is the two meal plan?

It is a healthy lifestyle practice where you eat just two meals each day with no snacks in between.

It may seem like a radical approach, but it's the healthiest way to eat. Read more
If you need more information about how to follow a two meal a day plan, the 2 Meal Solution is by far the best resource.

Breakfast Before or After a Workout?

The order of your morning routine could impact your weight loss or gain a new study reports.
The premise: Breakfast is billed as the most important meal of the day—but you may want to hold off on eating it until after your daily workout. Researchers in Belgium set up a six-week study to determine if the order of men’s morning routines would make a difference in terms of weight loss and other health aspects. “We hypothesized that training in the fasted state would be a better strategy to improve fat metabolism,” says the study’s lead author Karen Van Proeyen, Ph.D. “However, we were rather surprised that almost all measured parameters were more beneficially affected following a training program before breakfast, compared with a similar training session after breakfast.” Read more

An Exercise That Will Wildly Improve Your Memory

Did you know that with that with proper diet, fitness, and practice, memory can actually improve as we age? Besides that, there is an exercise that can wildly improve your memory.
If you ask any elementary school teacher what children forget in the classroom every day, you’ll learn that in addition to forgetting facts, they also leave behind all sorts of things: books, pens, iPods, etc. But what you won’t hear from the kids is, “What’s the matter with me? I’m eight years old, and my memory is going!” or “Gosh, another junior moment!”

Unfortunately, in our society, after age 25 or so, many folks begin to focus on any glitch in memory as evidence for its demise. Normal forgetting is cataloged as a “senior moment,” and the decline of memory becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Neuroscientists agree that with proper diet, fitness and practice, memory can improve as we age. They’ve also discovered that learning something new is one of the best ways to strengthen your brain over the years. Read more

The UpDayDownDay Diet: Turn On Your Skinny Gene

The only way to reduce your weight is to reduce calories. The Alternate-Day Diet developed by James B. Johnson, M.D. achieves calorie restriction by severely limiting calories every second day so the result over time is a reduced calorie diet. This program is based on animal studies that indicate that restricting caloric intake on alternate days can turn on the “skinny” gene.
Getting started on the Johnson UpDayDownDay Diet™ plan is easy... and unlike many other diets, long-term adherence is easy, too! The diet is ideal for individuals who are trying to lose weight, but it is appropriate for anyone who is looking to improve their health and prevent premature aging. Dr. James Johnson developed the diet based on studies showing that alternate-day calorie restriction decreases the risk of disease and prolongs life in virtually all organisms tested. Resveratrol is also believed to promote similar effects. Read more

5 Herbal Remedies for Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction, formerly called impotence, is the inability to obtain an adequate erection for satisfactory sexual activity. About 300,000 men each year are diagnosed with erectile dysfunction in the United States alone. Although, pharmaceuticals are often used to treat the condition, they are not suitable for many men who have other medical problems. Besides that, drugs are expensive and may have side effects. Herbal remedies for erectile dysfunction may often be cheaper and safer than pharmaceuticals are. Here are five herbal remedies that are used for erectile dysfunction.

1) Aswagandha

The herb Aswagandha (Withania somnifera), also called Indian ginseng, has been known for centuries as a tonic for stress relief. It works by decreasing performance anxiety and aiding better circulation.

2) Damiana

Mexican natives are known to use the herb damiana (Turnera diffusa) as a male aphrodisiac. Damiana has proven efficacy in alleviating problems of achieving and maintaining erection among men, besides soothing anxiety symptoms rising from fears of inadequate sexual performance.

3) Gingko Biloba

The most important way that ginkgo biloba works as an aphrodisiac is by improving the circulatory system of the body. Among males, this also leads to improved arterial inflow to erectile tissues through arteries and veins without any adverse effect on systemic blood pressure. Enhanced supply of blood to the sex organs is crucial to attain and maintain erection. In this way use of ginkgo biloba may help in the treatment of impotence caused by poor circulation among men. Among healthy males, it can help in achieving prompt and longer lasting erections as well as more intense orgasms.

4) Ginseng
One of the herbal remedies that has gained considerable acceptance in recent years is Ginseng. Although the term ginseng has been used to refer to a variety of unrelated plants, many of them show remarkably similar properties and thereputic values. Among them, Chinese ginseng (Panax ginseng), Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus), and Female ginseng (Angelica sinensis or Dong Quai) show poptential as treatments for erectile dysfunction.

5) Saw Palmetto

Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) has received attention in the past years as an effective treatment for libido loss for its ability to help the body retain testosterone levels.

Erectile dysfunction is a condition that affects a lot of men, but just because you have it, does not mean that you have to use pharmaceutical for the rest of your life in order to have sex. For many men, herbal remedies are a viable alternative to erectile dysfunction drugs. Consult with an alternative medical practitioner or herbalist about the best herbal remedy for your condition. Before you know it, erectile dysfunction may become just a bad memory.

Bruce Lee's Ab Move: The Dragon Flag

Bruce Lee’s go-to abs exercise is your ticket to true core strength.
The dragon flag, a move named after its supposed inventor, Bruce Lee, isn’t just a flashy exercise that got dumped into the Rocky IV training montage because it looked cool. “It’s intense and very tough on your entire core,” says Jon Chaimberg, a strength coach for some of the world’s top MMA fighters. “The key is to work it slowly.” Despite the obvious advantages most guys still don’t write it into their programs. Remedy that by grabbing onto a bench and following the simple steps below. You’ll feel like a champ once you’ve finished a few sets. Just be careful. Screaming “Drago!” while you’re doing it will probably get you kicked out of the gym. Read more

A Fitness Plan So Easy a Caveman Could Do It

Mark Sisson's fitness plan requires minimum effort for maximum effect. If you just want to be fit, this is the simplest, easiest program you will find.
... But what’s the best way to exercise?

The mainstream prescription for exercise is ineffective, unsustainable, and downright unpleasant. Don’t believe me? Head down to your local gym and tell me what you see:

Men and women logging endless miles on a treadmill, slogging through their workouts with miserable looks on their faces and a perpetual spare tire around their waists – that never seems to go away.

Pencil-legged guys using machines to isolate individual arm muscles, staring in the mirror, and getting nowhere.

People trudging wearily across the gym parking lot, looking like they’re heading for an execution.

I don’t know about you, but that sounded like an awful way of exercising to me, so I decided to come up with my own program.

I call it Primal Blueprint Fitness, and it’s incredibly simple, to-the-point, and highly effective. Read more

5 Natural Ways to Prevent and Reverse Hair Loss

Many people are searching for ways to prevent and reverse hair loss. This is quite understandable since the prospect of losing all the hair on your head can be both depressing and embarrassing. Natural remedies to prevent and reverse hair loss make use of natural ingredients or methods and seldom have any negative effects, even in long-term use. Here are five natural ways to help you prevent and reverse hair loss:

1) Scalp massage

Inadequate blood flow in the scalp area is among the chief causes of hair loss. Massaging the scalp can stimulate blood flow and distribute nutrients that are essential for hair growth. My post Reverse Hair Loss with Massage explains how to do it. This practice can be done once a day every morning or before going to bed.

2)  Inversion

Inversion involves inverting the body to allow blood to flow to the head. You can stand on your head for up to five minutes, or simple let your upper body hang from the edge of your bed. The continuous blood flow to the head will help you prevent and reverse hair loss.

3) Diet

The food you consume affects your health and appearance. Avoid the empty calories and toxins of processed foods, and eat as much fresh meat, fish, vegetables, and fruits as you can. The nutrients in these foods will contribute to the health and appearance of your hair and scalp.

4) Avoid toxic substances

Just as important as putting good things into your body is not putting bad things into it. Aside from processed foods, drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking are two main sources of toxins. If you frequently consume alcoholic drinks and smoke cigarettes, chances are, your body is already filled with harmful toxins that can greatly affect your health and cause you to lose hair. Prevent and reverse hair loss by avoiding these toxins and others, such as household chemicals.

5) Manage stress
Stress can affect a person's well-being in a number of ways, including hair loss. Chronic tension can result to the contraction of the muscles in your scalp, which will then prevent continuous blood flow. Manage stress by learning some relaxation techniques or engaging in activities that take your mind off your worries.

If you're serious about preventing and reversing hair loss, you should try all five of these ways. The only ones that take any time are scalp massage and inversion, and even they take only 5-10 minutes daily. The more you do to keep your hair and scalp healthy, the less hair you will lose and the more you will grow back.

Did you know that most hair loss is NOT genetic? The reason most of you reading this are losing hair is because your hair follicles are trapped and blocked off from vital blood supplies that are needed to nourish their development. To discover how to stop your hair loss and regrow most, if not all of your lost hair, within weeks, click here

Can't Lose Weight? Artificial Sweeteners May Be the Cause

Can't lose weight? Artificial sweeteners may be the cause, says David Brownstein, MD, especially toxic sucralose.
Sucralose is an artificial sweetener found in many low-calorie, sugar-free products. Unfortunately, it has become a staple in our food supply. It is 600x as sweet as table sugar and over three times sweeter than aspartame (i.e., NutraSweet). I would venture a guess that a product that is 600x sweeter than table sugar is not be a healthy item for the human body.

Sucralose contains three chlorine atoms in its structure. Heating sucralose can create a chemical reaction with the chlorine atoms where they are transformed into a toxic product.

A recent study (Env. Sci. Techn. 2011; Aug 31.PMID:21879743) reported that water treatment plants were unable to fully remove sucralose from the finished drinking water. The researchers studied 19 U.S. water treatment plants serving more than 28 million people. The scientists reported that sucralose was found in the finished drinking water in 13 of 19 sites. What this means is that the water treatment plants were unable to remove sucralose from the end product coming out of your tap. Read more

Nuts May Prevent Heart Disease

A new study found that eating walnuts, hazelnuts, and almonds contributed to heart health.
A recent study conducted by scientists at the University of Barcelona in collaboration with the Human Nutrition Unit of the Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona, reveals that eating nuts can elevate serotonin levels in the bodies of individuals suffering from metabolic syndrome (which puts them at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes). Unfortunately, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in the USA alone has been estimated at approximately 25%.

Serotonin is an important hormone and neurotransmitter with a dual function in the human body. While it is located mostly in the enterochromaffin cells in the gut, where it regulates intestinal movement, smaller amounts of serotonin can also be found in the central nervous system, where it helps regulate mood, appetite and sleep. Moreover, elevated serotonin levels correlate positively with good heart health. Read more

Want Cancer? Go to an Airport

Want cancer? Go to an airport, says John Whitehead.
Just when you started to think it might be safe to fly again…

Remember those whole-body, X-ray scanners the government installed in airports across the country and kept insisting were so safe? It turns out that they’re not so safe, after all. According to an investigative report by ProPublica/PBS NewsHour, anywhere from six to 100 U.S. airline passengers each year could get cancer from the machines.

Many Americans initially objected to the invasive nature of the scans, which have been likened to "virtual strip searches" because of the degree to which intimate details of the body are revealed. Travelers also complained about being subjected to ogling and inappropriate remarks by airport officials. In response, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) attempted to alter the devices to make the X-ray images less graphic. Unfortunately, the TSA has done little to nothing about the concerns increasingly being raised about the risk of cancer from the scanners.

Yet as far back as 1998, radiation experts were warning against using X-ray scanners to peer beneath people’s clothing in the search for weapons and contraband, insisting that the machines violate a longstanding principle in radiation safety Read more

Salt Your Way to Health

The human body was designed to crave and utilize salt, says David Brownstein, MD.
An article in The Journal of The American Medical Association (May 4, 2011. Vol. 305, N. 17) looked at the influence dietary salt had in cardiovascular disease. The authors studied 3681 subjects for a median of 7.9 years. What the researchers found made headlines in major newspapers.

The scientists reported that there was a direct, inverse linear correlation between the amount of salt ingested and the rate of cardiovascular deaths. What that means is that as salt intake went up, cardiovascular deaths went down. They stratified the subjects into three groups; a low, medium and high salt intake group. The death rates declined as the subjects ate more salt: from 4.1% in the lowest group to 1.9% in the medium group and 0.8% in the highest group. Read more

Did CDC Cover Up Data Showing Link between Mercury-Containing Vaccines and Autism?

Ethan A. Huff exposes how the Center for Disease Control (CDC) deliberately manipulated and covered up scientific data showing link between vaccines containing mercury and autism.
Deniers of the link between mercury-laden vaccines and autism are going to have a hard time denying the latest findings by the Coalition for Mercury-Free Drugs (CoMeD). The nonprofit group has obtained critical documents via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that exposes the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) role in deliberately lying about and manipulating a key Danish study that showed a clear link between vaccines containing mercury and autism.

In 2003, the journal Pediatrics published a study conducted in Denmark that observed a significant decline in autism rates following the country's elimination of Thimerosal, a mercury-based component, from vaccines. But thanks to the CDC's corrupting influence, the published version of the study in Pediatrics actually claimed the opposite, and alleged that removal of Thimerosal brought about an increase in autism rates. 4 Herbs for Better Erections

How do you increase the strength and hardness of your erections? First of all, you need a strong and increased blood flow to the penis when sexual arousal occurs. Most men with poor erectile function have sluggish or weak circulation, but that's only half the story. When the blood reaches the penis, you need to release plenty of nitric oxide in response the messages of sexual arousal to allow the blood vessels in the vicinity of the penis to relax and enough blood to enter and stay there to create an erection. The following four herbs either increase blood flow or release nitric oxide so that you can experience rock-hard erections.

1) Ginkgo Biloba

Perhaps the best blood circulatory tonic is Ginkgo Biloba. Ginkgo Biloba improves blood flow throughout the body, while its antioxidant affect means that it protects blood vessels and reduce arteriosclerotic lesions. In addition, it increases the half-life of the endothelium relaxation factor, important for a strong, hard, long-lasting erection.

2) Schizandra Berry

Schizandra Berry is a powerful Chinese herb which increases sexual stamina and strengthens the sex organs generally, and also helps fight fatigue and stress and gives the body an energy boost.

3) Cnidium Monnieri

One of the best herbs to increase nitric oxide is Cnidium Monnieri . This little-known Chinese herb will not only pump your blood more strongly and act as a blood tonic, but it also produces nitric oxide and allows the blood to flow into the penis.

4) Epimedium

Epimedium, also known as Horny Goat Weed, not only helps increase nitric oxide, but it will also give you a testosterone and energy boost at the same time.

Start by taking one herb that primarily increases blood flow, such as Ginkgo Biloba or Schizandra Berry and one herb that primarily releases nitric oxide, such as Cnidium or Horny Goat Weed. You could take all four if you want, but why take more than you need? Within a few weeks of taking the herbs, you will have the erection you have always wanted. At the same time, you will also find your overall sense of well-being will have increased, and it will have all been achieved naturally without prescription drugs.

Don't Get a Coronary CT Scan

Don't get a coronary CT scan, says David Browstein, MD. It's dangerous, and can only lead to more dangerous procedures.
I am asked by many patients if they should get a coronary CT scan to evaluate the status of their coronary arteries. Coronary CT scans are a noninvasive way to visualize calcification in the coronary arteries. The only other way to visualize atherosclerotic changes in the coronary arteries is through an angiogram where a catheter from the groin is thread to the coronary arteries.

It must be better to do a coronary CT scan – versus an angiogram – since it is non-invasive – right? The answer to this question is easy; coronary CT scans should be avoided. Read more

4 Ways to Reverse Hair Loss Naturally

Are you looking for some effective ways to stop hair loss? Natural remedies to reverse hair loss can sometimes be just as effective as hair transplants and pharmaceuticals. If you want to avoid the expense and side effects of surgery or drugs, try these four ways to reverse hair loss naturally.

1) Herbs

Herbs are usually dismissed by modern medicine, but the truth is herbs can work extremely well to reverse hair loss. Some of the most effective herbs for hair regrowth include:

  • Saw palmetto
  • Urva Ursi
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • Pygeum
  • Nettle root
2) Green Tea

Drinking a few cups of green tea every day can be an easy way to control thinning and shedding hair. This is due to the antioxidants and DHT-inhibiting agents contained in this beverage. My post The Top Herbs for Hair Loss goes into more detail about herbs and green tea.

3) Your Diet

What you eat every day plays a huge role in the health and growth of your hair. Changes in your diet can control hair loss and improve hair regrowth. Protein, or more specifically amino acids, are required for optimum hair growth. Other essential hair nutrients like biotin, zinc, and vitamin B6 should also be included in your daily diet in order for your hair to stop falling and start regrowing.

4) Scalp Massage

Massage your scalp for five minutes twice a day. By doing so, you will allow the blood circulation in the scalp to move around more actively, which will result in more blood flow. This increased blood flow will improve the nourishment that the hair follicles get. As a result, your hair growth will be stimulated and given a boost. See my post Reverse Hair Loss with Massage for more about scalp massage.

Any one of these natural remedies may work for you, but why not try all four? After all, they]re practically free and don't take much time. Besides, the more stimulation and nutrients your hair and scalp get, the faster you can reverse your hair loss.

Did you know that most hair loss is NOT genetic? The reason most of you reading this are losing hair is because your hair follicles are trapped and blocked off from vital blood supplies that are needed to nourish their development. To discover how to stop your hair loss and regrow most, if not all of your lost hair, within weeks, click here!

5 Tips to Overcome Premature Ejaculation

Many, if not most, men have suffered an episode of premature ejaculation in their lives. However, when it's a frequent occurrence, premature ejaculation is not only embarrassing, but also robs you and your partner of sexual pleasure. Fortunately, premature ejaculation is usually a curable condition. These five tips can help you overcome premature ejaculation.

 1) Try to relax. Take your time and enjoy the foreplay that leads to intercourse. Don't rush to penetration. (Plus, if you give her an orgasm before intercourse, she won't be as disappointed if you do ejaculate quickly.) When you do begin intercourse, start slowly and remember to breathe. Slow, deep breathing helps keep your muscles relaxed, which delays ejaculation.

2) Be aware of your arousal level. It is Know when the sexual tension is building and slow down or stop a bit before you pass the point of no return. You will last longer, and as long as you don't stop when she is close to orgasm, she will enjoy sex more, too.

3) Change position:  One method to delay ejaculation is changing position. Some positions, such as missionary and doggy, are quite stimulating to most men, whereas woman-on-top and spoon positions are usually less stimulating  Also, if you change your position every few minutes, your arousal level will fall until you build it up again in the new position. Just don't change positions when she's getting close. After she's had her orgasm, you can switch to a position you like and have yours.

4) Masturbate before sex with your partner. Males are considerably slower to climax if they have ejaculated recently. Just masturbate long enough beforehand to allow yourself time to have another erection.

5) Train your PC muscle. If your PC muscle is strong enough, you can use it to stop ejaculation. (My post Exercise for Harder Erections outlines a PC muscle training program.)

Using one or more of these five tips should allow many men to overcome premature ejaculation. Though "overnight" cures do happen, don't give up just because you don't get the results you want the first time you try something. Achieving a happier sex life is worth whatever time and effort it takes.

Are you sick and tired of the humiliation of premature ejaculation? To learn a proven, permanent method that allows you to last 10-30 minutes longer in bed TONIGHT, Click Here!

5 Tips for Stronger Erections

A man's worst nightmare is to have erection problems. The record sales of erectile dysfunction pills, not to mention herbal remedies, demonstrate that. Naturally, every man wants to have better erections in order to satisfy himself and his sex partner. Following the five simple tips below will  be a good start to helping your penis "go the distance" instead of leaving your partner "high and dry."

1) Don't masturbate beforehand.
The more you ejaculate, the longer your refractory period until you can have another erection.

2) Have a drink or two - but no more.
Alcohol in low doses increases the arousal signals from your brain to your penis. Your inhibitions are lowered, so you're more easily excited than if you were completely sober. However, more is not better. Anything more than one or two drinks has the potential to kill your erection.

3) Change the stimuli.
You don't need to change your partner, but try changing your surroundings, her lingerie, sex positions, etc.

4) Skip the post-sex cigarette.
If you do smoke, at least don't smoke before you're finished having sex. Smoking restricts circulation, which is the opposite of what you need to get an erection.

5) Get the blood flowing again.
Good circulation is important for maintaining strong erections. Improve yours simply by standing up and moving around. Offer to get your partner something to eat or drink.

Take steps to safeguard your sex life now, and you may never need to turn to pharmaceuticals to satisfy your partner. Stronger erections make for a better sexual experience, both for you and for your partner. So, make use of these five simple tips to help improve your sexual performance.

A breakthrough new method gives any man harder erections simply, naturally and without drugs! To stop erectile dysfunction and start having stiff, powerful erections tonight, Click Here!

How to Breathe

Breath guru Alan Dolan explains the ins and outs of improving your breathing and, as a result, your health.
Familiarise yourself Take some time to get to know your breath better. Put one hand on your stomach and one hand on your upper chest, close your eyes and take a big inhale through your nose, and let it out. Take note of which hand moved the most – the bottom or the top. Eighty per cent of us are upper chest breathers, 20 per cent belly breathers. Discovering which you are can help you make the most out of your breath

Upper chest breathers… The upper chest is associated with anxiety and stress. When you start breathing from your abdomen, it induces calm. Sit back at about 45° and make sure your neck is supported. Put your hands on your abdomen and breathe through the nose, imagining there is a balloon where your abdomen is. Take a deep inhale, inflating the 'balloon’ . Feel the abdomen rise. Then let it go, and repeat. Keep doing this for five minutes. If you find it an effort, put a book flat on your abdomen for a bit of weight, and breathe to push the book away. I use Harry Potter because it’s so heavy. Read more

Quit Smoking with Exercise

When you decide to stop smoking, you'll bring on other changes in your life as well.  Smoking is a very addictive habit. Exercise can be a big help to you when you decide to quit. If you have an addictive personality, substituting exercise can create a positive addiction to replace the negative addiction of smoking.
Try to set a new routine, such as working out or going to the gym.  If that isn't possible, you  should try waking up earlier and going for a short walk.  If you can turn that walk into a run or a  jog, it is going to be very stimulating and the best way that you can start your day.

Keep in mind that exercise doesn't necessarily mean  pumping iron.  If you don't have the time to stop by the gym every day, then it isn't really that big of a problem, as you can always choose to work out at home.

Whether you choose to workout at home or at a gym, you should always remember that regularity is the key.  It isn't getting started that's the difficult part, it's sticking to a regular exercise program that is difficult and proves to be stumbling block for most people.

Some people have a great start.  They will buy  track suits, gym wear, running shoes, and a lot of other gear, so their first day at the gym is almost like a celebration.  As the days go by,  they find it very difficult to meet the demands and their routine will slow down a lot and finally come to a complete exercise burnout.

One mistake that several people make is choosing the evenings to exercise.  If evenings fit your lifestyle, then it's fine.  For most people, however, the evening hours are when they are completely pooped.  By the evening most of us are drained, and simply too tired for exercise.  Therefore, it is always best to set some time aside for exercise in the morning.

In the morning, wake up a half an hour or so  earlier, put on your shoes, and hit the road.  Most roads are less crowded in the morning and less polluted as well, making it a wonderful and relaxing way to start the day.

One of the unintended "benefits" of quitting smoking with exercise is that  you will come face to face with how much lung capacity you've lost from smoking, especially if you attempt to jog or swim. However, that shouldn't make you quit. It should motivate to keep going and get it back, which you can. How much depends on how long you've been smoking, but no matter how long you've smoked, the day you stop is the day you stop doing damage to yourself.

How Much Nutrition Do You Really Need?

Bill Sardi discusses which nutrition chart you should rely upon, the RDA, RDI, AI, EAR or DV, or how much nuutrition do you really need?
It is so strange, in an era of overly processed foods and refined sugars, nutritionists continue to maintain the American diet is sufficient to meet the nutrient needs of Americans. This drivel continues despite the fact recent studies do not confirm the consumption of fruits and vegetables significantly reduces mortality rates for heart disease and cancer, the number one and two chronic diseases that drive mortality rates. Even the 9-13 servings of plant foods-regimen now recommended by health authorities still is an unproven measure.

If you are totally confused by the array of acronyms RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance), RDI (Reference Dietary Intake), AI (Adequate Intake), EAR (Estimated Average Requirement) and DV (Daily Value) used to inform Americans how much nutrition they need, join the crowd. For various reasons, all of these should be disregarded, as explained below. Read more

Researchers Find Natural Way to Cut Stroke Risk by Half

Researchers have discovered a side effect-free natural way to cut stroke risk by half: eat white fruits and vegetables.
It is common sense that eating a healthy diet should help prevent disease. But Big Pharma must surely have superior elixirs, pills, potions and shots when it comes to serious prevention of the big killer diseases like stroke, right?

If the drug companies have a prescription drug, without any side effects, that can slash the risk of a stroke by 52 percent, please write and let NaturalNews know - because we can't find it anywhere in the scientific literature.

Instead, we've found a mountain of evidence from peer reviewed studies showing that natural substances in food can help prevent and heal a multitude of illness. And now there's another dramatic finding that shows eating an abundance of certain foods can help protect against stroke -- specifically the white flesh of foods like pears and apples. Read more

Shy Children at Risk of Being Diagnosed with Mental Disorder

Children who are merely shy or sad are at risk of being diagnosed with mental disorders and given powerful drugs, experts warn.
Psychologists say that new guidelines being developed in America will lead more young people seeing their common problems regarded as illnesses that must be treated, rather than just being given support.

They fear that pupils who are quiet at school could be diagnosed with “social anxiety disorder” while those who become withdrawn after suffering a bereavement are classified as having a “depressive disorder”.

Children who just talk back to adults or lose their temper regularly could be diagnosed with “oppositional defiant disorder”.

As a result, those found to have these increasingly broad mental disorders could be prescribed powerful medication such as Prozac or Ritalin to control or alter their behaviour. Read more

The Ultra-Nourishing, Anti-Inflammatory Immune Booster

Edward Groups gives eleven reasons why goat's milk is far healthier than cow's milk.
While cow’s milk remains one of America’s most common daily drinks, it is interesting to note that it may also be the reason why many Americans experience gas, bloating, mucous and other forms of indigestion.

Moreover, in a world where the common cow is pumped full of growth hormones, antibiotics, GMO feed, vaccinations and exposed to toxic conditions, it is no wonder that many humans experience negative effects of consuming pasteurized cow milk.

Goat’s milk is a much healthier alternative, especially if it is consumed raw and from a good organic source. The most common form of milk used on a global scale, it is estimated that around three fourths of the milk consumed worldwide comes from goats, not cows. And most of the people drinking this milk are not fat and do not have allergies or digestive complaints.

The Benefits of Goat Milk

Goat’s milk offers a wide variety of health benefits, with very few of the negative side effects of drinking regular cow milk. Read more

Targeting Heart Health May Improve Sex Life

Erectile dysfunction in middle-aged men may be a sign of more serious health problems. Improving their cardiovascular health may improve their sex lives, too.
Middle-aged men who take steps to improve their heart health by eating better, getting more exercise, or taking cholesterol-lowering drugs may end up improving their sex lives as well, according to a new analysis of existing research.

Nearly 1 in 5 men in the U.S. has difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection, a condition known as erectile dysfunction (ED). The new study, which appears this week in the Archives of Internal Medicine, suggests that ED drugs such as Viagra aren't the only solution and aren't always enough to address the problem, says coauthor Dr. Stephen Kopecky, M.D., a cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

"If you do take care of your lifestyle—eating right, exercising, losing weight—you respond much better to the Viagra, the Levitra, the Cialis," Kopecky says. By the same token, he adds, if these drugs become less effective "that should be a sign that...you need to take care of your lifestyle.'" Read more

The Acid-Reflux Nightmare

Mark Sisson discusses the symptoms, causes, and remedies for GERD.
The symptoms can be abject misery: searing abdominal pain, debilitating stomach cramps, an excruciating, rising burn, acid-filled hiccups, tightened throat, constant sleep disturbance, and even the rare but terrifying bouts of choking from nighttime acid inhalation. I’m talking of course about acid reflux or GERD as it’s commonly called these days. I personally suffered from occasional bouts of GERD and experienced all the symptoms above for years during and even after my endurance days. (It wasn’t until I gave up grains that my GERD completely disappeared.) Maybe you’ve had it. Maybe you know someone who’s had it. GERD, by the way, isn’t your run-of-the-mill occasional heartburn (which isn’t much fun either) but a chronic pattern of heartburn in which you experience symptoms at least a few times a week. I get emails about it all the time, and it’s little wonder. Statistics suggest that 25-30% of American adults experience GERD related heartburn multiple times a week (PDF). Of all the pharmaceutical categories, proton pump inhibitors (a predominant prescription for GERD) have ranked consistently in the top twenty for years. And that doesn’t even take into account the old-fashioned antacids like Tums and Rolaids that people pop like candy. What, for the love, is going on here? It used to be heartburn was generally confined to women in their last months of pregnancy or to the annual Thanksgiving overindulgence. It certainly wasn’t a chronic condition plaguing a large percentage of the population. I sense a familiar pattern here, no? Read more

Enjoy Saturated Fats, They’re Good for You!

Cardiac surgeon Donald W. Miller, Jr., MD, discusses the heart=damaging effects of the low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet pushed by the medical establishment, the federal government, and the mainstream media.
This article is taken from a talk I gave at the 29th Annual Meeting of the Doctors for Disaster Preparedness in Albuquerque last week, on the controversial subject of saturated fats. Some of the slides that I used for this talk are put in here.

The medical establishment and government health authorities say that consumption of saturated animal fats is bad for us and causes heart disease. According to the lipid hypothesis – the label used for the diet-cholesterol theory of heart disease – saturated fats raise serum cholesterol levels, and high blood cholesterol causes obstructive plaques to form in arteries, called atherosclerosis. This pathologic process causes coronary heart disease and the need for coronary artery bypass surgery, which is what I do. Read more

Sleep Better by Avoiding Blue Light

Lenette Nakauchi says you can naturally improve your sleep by avoiding blue light.
In order to fall asleep, the human body produces melatonin, a hormone created in the pineal gland. Melatonin allows the body to relax enough to sleep, allowing it to follow the natural circadian rhythm. However, some environmental factors can interfere with the production of melatonin and make falling asleep naturally a highly difficult task. One such factor is blue light.

Why is light such a crucial factor? Before technology and electricity, the human body relied upon environmental light to determine when it was time to sleep and when it was time to wake up. In today's world there are alarm clocks, cell phones, and other devices that dictate when it is time to get out of bed, but the body has yet to adapt to these technological changes. Despite the fact that you may have depended upon an alarm clock for your entire life, your body is still capable of matching its sleep cycle to the natural cycle of the environment.

Blue light is a part of the light spectrum that is especially visible during the day, making its appearance a cue to the body to wake up. No matter how tired you are, your body may be limited in its production of melatonin if you are exposed to blue light. It follows, then, that avoiding blue light before going to bed is a great way to allow your body to produce the natural levels of melatonin that it needs to fall asleep. Read more

How We Develop Allergies

Joseph Mercola discusses natural relief and prevention of allergies.
If you're a seasonal allergy sufferer, you know that few things can drain the joy out of summertime like the misery of red, itchy eyes, continuous sneezing and post-nasal drip. Airborne pollen is the most common cause of seasonal allergies, also known as hay fever or allergic rhinitis. Allergies can mean more than general misery for asthma sufferers, whose bouts can be much worse during allergy season – even life-threatening, in some cases. Allergy-driven asthma affects 10 million Americans, rates that have doubled since 1980. Read more

Moderate Drinking May Reduce Alzheimer's Risk

Researchers have found another lifestyle factor that may reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease - moderate drinking.
Lifestyle factors -- like not smoking, maintaining a healthy body weight and being physically active -- have been shown in past studies to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. But a sweeping new review of the research also shows that moderate drinking -- that is, no more than one to two drinks per day -- could also slash the risk of developing the disease. Read more

The Proof Is in the Cure with Alternative Cancer Treatments

If you think that chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery are the only ways to treat cancer, you are badly uninformed. Alternatives to dangerous, expensive medical procedures exist, says Paul Fassa.
Science can be used to obfuscate reality, especially in medicine. Several disclosures from whistle blowers and investigators have uncovered scandalous false medical journal reports. Most oncologists don't want to know the power of nutrition and detoxification. The extremely low rate of recovery from cancer using expensive toxic methods and creating more suffering continues. Why? Authoritative medical science says it's the only way.

A Few Examples of Real Cancer Cures

A retired teacher decides to burn both ends of her life's candle and winds up with cancer. Her oncologist was insisting on surgery. She went to a friend who told her of the Gerson Institute and a retreat in Australia that applies pretty much the same approach as Gerson. She was cured beyond expectation. Erectile Dysfunction Exercises for Naturally Hard Erections

Erectile dysfunction, the inability to maintain an erection for longer than a few minutes, can cause distress and a lack of confidence in a man. If you are starting to feel the first symptoms of erectile dysfunction, then it's time you started to exercise your penis muscles regularly to prevent the progression to full erectile dysfunction. A man's libido requires some maintenance, especially as he ages and even more so if he carries extra weight, has felt the side effects of medication and alcohol and especially if has low testosterone.

Why Erectile Dysfunction Exercises?

Natural erectile dysfunction exercises are a series of simple, natural penis-strengthening exercises that can cure erectile problems if they are done properly. In fact, penis exercises are not exclusively for men with erection problems. All men, young or old, should perform regular penis-strengthening exercises to ensure stronger erections, maximum penis size, and full ejaculatory control.

These three important benefits should be enough to motivate you into performing regular erectile dysfunction exercises, or penis workouts. The penis and your erection depend on good, healthy blood circulation. You need to help your blood vessels surrounding the penis do their job properly and to increase the circulation.

How To Perform Erectile Dysfunction Exercises

Erectile dysfunction exercises break down into three different categories:

1) Kegel Workouts

Kegel workouts are named after the person who first started recommending them. Strengthening the PC muscle results in proven harder erections and can maximize the size of your penis as a result. These exercises consist of flexing the muscle you use to stop yourself from peeing: the PC muscle. This muscle is between your testicles and your anus. Flex this muscle ten times in a row, holding your muscle firm for five full seconds.

2) Penile Massage

Massaging the penis helps to improve blood circulation. You can massage your penis while it's erect, semi-erect (ideal) or flaccid. Massaging around the perineum area (behind the testicles), the pubis and the base of the penis improves blood flow and enables more blood to improve your erection in less time. Massaging when your penis is warm (in a warm shower) is more beneficial. Testicular massage is also helpful for increasing testosterone levels in the penile area.

3) Orgasm Edging

Orgasm edging is about taking yourself to the brink of orgasm, then holding your ejaculation instead of ejaculating. Many of us do this naturally when making love or masturbating. Edging using these natural methods increases testosterone levels in your body, improves penile blood circulation, and virility.

Take yourself to the very brink of orgasm and then flex your PC muscles to prevent ejaculating. It's important that you do this several times in a row. You should only ejaculate every other time. Make sure that you refrain from ejaculating one of every two times. After mastering the methods in holding back your orgasm, you'll not only be able to have full control over your ejaculation, but you'll be able to use the techniques to have male multiple orgasms.

These three techniques are natural, effective penis-strengthening exercises that can be used to treat erectile dysfunction symptoms in men.

A breakthrough new method gives any man harder erections simply, naturally and without drugs! To stop erectile dysfunction and start having stiff, powerful erections tonight, Click Here!

10 Foods Naturally High in Vitamin D

Vitamin D supplements are cheap, safe, and effective, but it's still best to get your nutrients from food as much as possible. Edward Group gives a list of ten foods naturally high in vitamin D - not fortified.
Although we can find many foods in the supermarket that have been fortified with a synthetic form of Vitamin D, there are only a select number of foods containing vitamin D in them naturally.

Normally, our body takes in Vitamin D in the form of sun-synthesis through the skin. But in our modern times, where many of us spend countless hours inside houses, cars and shopping malls, our actual exposure to the sun is limited. This fact may be a principle cause of many ailments, including depression. For this reason, it is extremely important to have a diet high in Vitamin D or take a vitamin D supplement.

This is my ‘List of Foods Containing Vitamin D’, as well as some of the great potential benefits of the vitamin. (In no particular order) Read more

Inflammation: A Symptom of All Disease?

Inflammation is a symptom of all disease, says Margaret Durst. It's big trouble, but you can outsmart it.
Chronic inflammation is a common symptom in most degenerative diseases. These include certain types of cancer, cardiovascular disease, Type II diabetes, high cholesterol, chronic obesity, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Inflammation is a natural response of the body to injury. Think of inflammation in relation to the swelling around a sprained ankle. The body handles this injury by sending certain chemicals to the area to start tissue repair. On the surface, this looks like swelling, but underneath the skin, much is going on to repair the damage and restore health to the ankle. Read more

How to Build the Health and Strength of Your Feet

Going barefoot is healthy for your feet, but if you've been wearing shoes all your life, your feet may not be ready for shoelessness. Mark Sisson provides five exercises and other strategies to prepare for barefooting.
“Just go barefoot.”

How many times have you heard that from the dude with big calves, wide feet, and soles like supple calf skin? (Hmm, that came out weirder than I imagined.) Or maybe you’re that guy, and you’ve said it. Heck, I’ve probably said something to that effect before. It’s a casual recommendation that we long-term barefooters toss around… but maybe we shouldn’t. (Heresy!) Okay – bear with me, here. Everyone agrees that shoelessness is the foot’s natural state, and that getting to a place where you can enjoy that natural state is ideal. Natural isn’t always synonymous with good, but in the case of the human foot – a sensitive, capable, highly mobile appendage packed with innumerable nerve endings, muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and fascia that responds and reacts to the environment as you walk and/or run – natural is almost certainly desirable. The human foot is pretty amazing, and sticking it inside a restrictive shoe obscures that fact. I think we can agree on that.

But before you tell your friends to burn their shoes, consider something: the shod foot has been living in a cast most of its life. It occasionally enjoys a bit of freedom, but it’s a fleeting, temporary freedom that’s usually only granted when there’s nothing to do but lounge and sleep. When the modern foot is called into action, like at the gym, on a walk, or when going about daily business, they are usually wearing shoes that restrict muscle engagement and turn the feet into passive pieces of leather and rubber that slap along the ground. The feet are merely along for the ride; they do nothing, while the hips and ankles must shoulder the load. Ever seen an arm that’s just had a cast removed? It’s a skinny, withered shell of its former self. The muscles have atrophied, so it’s weaker. The connective tissue can’t quite handle the demands of regular use, so strains are a real possibility. It’ll even smell bad until you wash it (just like some feet), because it’s been cramped up for so long. Read more

Usain Bolt's Stunningly Average Running Skill

For readers who've gotten started in sprinting from reading my post Don't Just Run: Sprint, here's a short article about the science of sprinting. Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, doesn’t move his legs quicker than anyone else during a race. So why is he so fast?
One year from now, the 2012 Olympic Games will begin in London, where all eyes will be on the incomparable Usain Bolt -- the Jamaican sprinter who is more than living up to his name.

Since 2008, Bolt has taken a jackhammer to the 100-meter world record, lopping off a whopping .14 seconds. That might not sound like a huge chunk of time until you consider it's twice as much as any other sprinter has shaved off the world record since the advent of electronic scoring.

Logically, one would think that Bolt did so by moving his legs faster than anyone else. Only he didn't.

Speed, as it turns out, may be completely misunderstood.

When Bolt established the current 100-meter world record in the 2009 world championships, running it in 9.58 seconds, he did so by moving his legs at virtually the same pace as his competitors. In fact, if you or I were to compete against Bolt, our legs would turn over at essentially the same rate as his. Read more

Walnuts Are Drugs, Says FDA

Walnuts are drugs, says the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which told Diamond Foods that walnuts may not legally be marketed in the United States without an approved new drug application. This is just the latest example of an out-of-control federal bureaucracy..
Seen any walnuts in your medicine cabinet lately? According to the Food and Drug Administration, that is precisely where you should find them. Because Diamond Foods made truthful claims about the health benefits of consuming walnuts that the FDA didn’t approve, it sent the company a letter declaring, “Your walnut products are drugs” — and “new drugs” at that — and, therefore, “they may not legally be marketed … in the United States without an approved new drug application.” The agency even threatened Diamond with “seizure” if it failed to comply.

Diamond’s transgression was to make “financial investments to educate the public and supply them with walnuts,” as William Faloon of Life Extension magazine put it. On its website and packaging, the company stated that the omega-3 fatty acids found in walnuts have been shown to have certain health benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and some types of cancer. These claims, Faloon notes, are well supported by scientific research: “Life Extension has published 57 articles that describe the health benefits of walnuts”; and “The US National Library of Medicine database contains no fewer than 35 peer-reviewed published papers supporting a claim that ingesting walnuts improves vascular health and may reduce heart attack risk.” Read more

8 Natural Ways to Prevent a Sunburn (And Sunscreen’s Not One of Them)

Mark Sisson reveals eight natural ways to prevent sunburn (and sunscreen's not one of them).
As summer descends upon the world, a young Primal eater’s fancy turns to playful frolicking in the sunshine. And when you’re frolicking, the last thing you want to do is slather a bunch of horrible-smelling, greasy, overpriced sunblock all over your body. It makes you slippery and imbues your countenance with a deathly pallor that is very unbecoming. If you could, you’d love to avoid the nasty practice altogether. You’d love to use more alternative methods. Methods that may not have the support of the medical community, but for which supportive research does exist. Seeing as how a common refrain throughout the newly Primal is that sunburns seem fewer and further between than ever before, I’m guessing that there’s something to it. Dietary? Supplementary?

I’ve noticed the same thing in myself and my family, so I got to wondering: what about going Primal, exactly, might be having this effect? And if something is protecting us from the sun, and it’s not just in everyone’s heads, what else can we do to bolster our natural sunblock? What can we recommend to friends and family who aren’t quite on board with the whole deal but still want protection from the sun? Let’s take a look at some potential supplements and dietary strategies. I’ll reference research as often as possible, but I’ll also draw on anecdotal experience, both personal and from the community at large. Read more

The Best Foods To Fill You Up and Keep You Young

Ori Hofmekler discusses satisfying hunger, boosting metabolism, and helping you shed pounds.
What you're about to read here may change the way you think about food. Yes, once you see the facts, you'll realize that most of the products on the grocery shelves don't fit your biology. Most of today's dietary products are not designed to keep your body young.

The genes that regulate your biological age are highly sensitive to your diet, as they're triggered or inhibited by what you eat, how much you eat, and how often. The point is: You need to know how your diet affects your biological age. You need to know what food keeps you young and what food is making you old.

How Your Diet Affects Your Biological Age

It has been largely agreed that one of the most detrimental causes of aging is excessive calorie intake. Scientists speculate that humans have an overly strong drive to eat when food is readily available. And since people are surrounded today with calorie dense food, they tend to consume excess calories, which then cause them to gain weight, lose health, and age prematurely. Read more

Cutting Back on Salt Does Not Make You Healthier

Cutting back on salt does not make you healthier (despite nanny state warnings), according to new research.
Eating less salt will not prevent heart attacks, strokes or early death, according to a major study.

Its findings contradict all recommendations by the Government and medical profession urging the public to reduce the amount of salt they consume.

Research involving nearly 6,500 people concluded that there was ‘no strong evidence’ that lowering levels in the diet reduced the risk of heart disease or premature death.

In fact it found that cutting back on salt actually raises the likelihood of death in some patients with heart problems. Read more

Keep Your Brain Sharp Forever

Have you heard of the nutrient Astaxanthin? Joseph Mercola says its antioxidant powers blow away vitamins C and E.
... A Natural Way to Prevent Dementia?

Astaxanthin exhibits exceptionally potent free-radical scavenging activity, and protects your cells, organs and body tissues from oxidative damage. In this way it impacts many aspects of health, but one of the most exciting could be its impact on your brain. In fact it is hundreds of times more effective than vitamin E in squelching singlet oxygen free radicals.

People with dementia tend to accumulate abnormal levels of phospholipid hydroperoxides (PLOOH) in their red blood cells. But new research published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that taking 6 mg or 12 mg of astaxanthin daily for 12 weeks lowered blood levels of PLOOH by 40 and 50 percent, respectively.

Researchers concluded that the improved antioxidant status and decreased PLOOH levels in the red blood cells may contribute to the prevention of dementia.

Astaxanthin is a fat soluble nutrient and readily crosses your blood-brain barrier, and a past study found it may help prevent neurodegeneration associated with oxidative stress as well as make a potent natural brain food. Read more

Silver Spoons for Better Health

Silver spoons can fight bacteria, viruses, and other bad micro-organisms.
Most folks today would agree that we live in troubled times. At any moment, a single event could change the balance of our society for the worse, taking us back to what some might call the dark ages. Predicted solar flares, EMPs, earthquakes, or even terrorist activity today could lead to a complete infrastructure failure that would affect every aspect of our future. During such a grim event, our personal health would be a great concern. Without refrigeration, many medicines would spoil. Without power, pharmaceutical plants shut down. The few hospitals that have back-up power will soon run out and close if they are not overrun by the masses first. Most modern medical practices would become useless. What is common surgery today, will become a thing of the past. Without the power grid, virtually all that goes into modern medical practices for the common man simply goes away.

Everyday tasks that we would have engaged in without concern before such an event could now pose a health risk that leads to infections or sickness and could even lead to death. Running a barbed wire fence, turning a wrench on your truck, or cutting fire wood will require extra care so as to not get hurt or injured. In fact, just sitting down to a meal could lead to your demise. Aside from the main course, what are you ingesting from the plates and utensils themselves? Like it or not, without automatic dishwashers, we will all be taking a greater interest in washing the dishes and being certain that they are clean, which is why we all should now be looking at silver spoons.

Silver spoons may be the very reason some family lines have continued through the ages while others have been completely lost. Perhaps this, too, is why the general population holds a negative bias towards those who were “born with a silver spoon“. While the lower class ate their meals with dirty hands and wooden spoons, the elite would eat with dirty hands and silver spoons. Read more

Study Finds Ultra-Low-Calorie, Low-Carb Diet Can Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

A study has found that an ultra-low-calorie, low-carb diet is sufficient to reverse type 2 diabetes.
Patients who consumed only 600 calories a day for two months were able to reverse their Type 2 diabetes, according to a groundbreaking British study. The research, involving just 11 patients, suggests a very low-calorie diet can remove fat that clogs the pancreas, allowing normal insulin secretion to be restored, according to Newcastle University.

Seven of the 11 patients remained free of diabetes three months after the study, researchers said.

Type 2 diabetes, also known as adult-onset diabetes, has been thought to be a progressive, irreversible condition. Once diagnosed, some patients can control their diabetes with tablets, but many eventually require insulin injections. Read more

The One Food for Maximum Muscle, Minimum Fat

Dr. Joseph Mercola reveals the one food you need to eat for maximum muscle and minimum fat.
... So, there are two primary factors involved in effective fitness nutrition:

1. A high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet
2. Your diet must contain certain amino acids, the most notable of which is leucine

Leucine – A Powerful Muscle Builder

Leucine is part of branched-chain amino acid found in certain foods. It serves multiple functions in your body, one of which is signaling the mTOR (Mammalian Target of Rapamycin) mechanism, which causes protein to be created and builds your muscle. However, according to Ori, you need far more than the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of leucine in order to reap the optimal effect. Read more

"Magic Mushroom" Positive Effects Last Over a Year, Say Researchers

Researchers claim to have determined the proper dose levels of the psychoactive substance in so-called "magic mushrooms" needed to create positive changes in attitudes, mood, life satisfaction, and behavior that last for more than a year.
The hallucinogen in magic mushrooms may no longer just be for hippies seeking a trippy high.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine have been studying the effects of psilocybin, a chemical found in some psychedelic mushrooms, that's credited with inducing transcendental states. Now, they say, they've zeroed in on the perfect dosage level to produce transformative mystical and spiritual experiences that offer long-lasting life-changing benefits, while carrying little risk of negative reactions.

The breakthrough could speed the day when doctors use psilocybin--long viewed skeptically for its association with 1960s countercultural thrill-seekers--for a range of valuable clinical functions, like easing the anxiety of terminally ill patients, treating depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, and helping smokers quit. Already, studies in which depressed cancer patients were given the drug have reported positive results. "I'm not afraid to die anymore" one participant told The Lookout. Read more

How to Make Your Own Super Water

Dr. Edward Group says that the human body is a water machine, designed to run primarily on water and minerals. He explains what he means by that and gives a recipe for making your own toxin-free "super water."
Until recently most medical theory was based on the assumption that the 20% of our body that is solid tissue is what determined our health, since that is where most outward signs of disease and illness are found. It was thought that the 80% of our body that is liquid merely supported the structure of bone and organ tissue. We now know the opposite to be true, the fluids that flow through our body are what create our level of well being. The human body is a water machine, designed to run primarily on water and minerals. By weight our body is about 72% water, another 8% is a combination of chemical compounds and the remaining 20% is bone and solid tissue. From the most basic standpoint it is a common sense equation, if we are made up of 72% plain water, then naturally the quality of the water we consume will have a very dramatic impact on our overall state of health. Every healing and life giving process that happens in our body happens through Water! Read more

12 Steps for Natural Cancer Prevention

Joseph Mercola lists twelve steps for natural cancer prevention, plus an herb that is a powerful cancer gene regulator.
... Most of us actually carry around microscopic cancer cell clusters in our bodies all the time. The reason why we all don't develop cancer is because as long as your body has the ability to balance angiogenesis properly, it will prevent blood vessels from forming to feed these microscopic tumors. Trouble will only arise if, and when, the cancer cells manage to get their own blood supply, at which point they can transform from harmless to deadly.

As our ancestors intuitively understood, Nature has laced a large number of foods and herbs with naturally occurring inhibitors of angiogenesis, rendering them natural "anti-cancer medicines." Simply by consuming these anti-angiogenetic foods you can naturally boost your body's defense system and prevent blood vessels from forming and feeding the microscopic tumors that exist in your body at any given time.

I've previously written about a number of different foods found to have particularly powerful epigenetic influence, such as broccoli and resveratrol, but many researchers consider the curcumin in turmeric to have the greatest potential in combating cancer.

Is Lithium the New Fluoride?

Is lithium the next fluoride? Experts are calling for the addition of this psychiatric drug to the water supply to reduce "undesirable social behaviors."
Lithium, the psychiatric drug prescribed for depression, mania and bipolar disorder, is now being viewed as the new fluoride by some experts. These experts are calling for the addition of lithium to the water supply as a cure-all for social problems, including suicide, violent crime and drug use.

Lithium is the new fluoride

Dr. Gerald Schrauzer, who published the first paper in 1989 connecting lithium in water supplies to a decrease in certain undesirable social behaviors, became interested in lithium after growing up next to a "miracle spring" in Franzensbad, Czechoslovakia. This lithium-containing spring was alleged to moderate the temperaments of women in particular.

For centuries, people worldwide have been attracted to springs like these for their calming benefits, and scientists have since found the benefits to be credited to unusually high natural lithium levels. Read more

Can a Man Restore His Foreskin After Circumcision?

Many men who were circumcised as infants are now learning about the benfits of having an intact penis. Can a man restore his foreskin after circumcision? Kaylen Jackson says yes.
Circumcision is a commonly performed surgery in the U.S. on male babies. As more and more information becomes available about circumcision and its after effects, less and less parents are electing to have this done on their male children. However, there are hundreds of thousands of boys and men out there that have been and continue to be circumcised. What happens when a boy becomes a man and decides he wants his foreskin? Can he get it back?
Benefits Of Having An Intact Penis

You might wonder why a man would decide, after being circumcised his whole life, would decide he wanted to have an intact penis. While the U.S. has made a circumcised penis the “social norm” over the years, circumcision surgery is actually not commonly performed in other parts of the world. Studies have shown that the procedure is extremely painful for male babies and carries a high risk of infection when the wound is exposed to urine and feces in a diaper. Read more

5 Natural Remedies for Erectile Dysfunction

One problem that women do not have to worry about, but that worries every single man is erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction, formerly called impotence, is the inability to achieve or maintain an adequate erection for satisfactory sexual activity. It's more common in men middle-aged and older, but it can occur at any age.

Erectile dysfunction is not something that men have to live with anymore. You're probably aware of the several heavily advertised medications that you can take to help with this problem. However, if you don't like to take pharmaceutical drugs, you may want to try these natural remedies as alternative treatments for erectile dysfunction.

1) Ashwagandha
The herb ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is sometimes called Indian Ginseng because it is thought to have similar effects on the body. It is thought to increase energy, stamina, and sexual function.

2) Gingko Biloba
The herb ginkgo biloba is used for erectile dysfunction, particularly in people who experience sexual dysfunction as a side effect of antidepressant drugs. It appears to relax smooth muscle and enhance blood flow in the penis.

3) L-Arginine
L-arginine is an amino acid that the body uses to make nitric oxide, a substance signals smooth muscle surrounding blood vessels to relax, which dilates the blood vessels and increases blood flow. Relaxation of smooth muscle in the penis allows for enhanced blood flow, leading to an erection. L-arginine is found naturally in foods such as meat, dairy, poultry, and fish. It is also available as oral L-arginine supplements, which some product manufacturers market as a "natural Viagra").

4) Propionyl-L-Carnitine
Propionyl-L-carnitine has been found to enhance the effectiveness of Viagra and result in improved erectile function, sexual intercourse satisfaction, orgasm, and general sexual well-being compared to Viagra alone. Propionyl-L-carnitine supplements plus Viagra has also been found effective for men with erectile dysfunction and diabetes who were previously unresponsive to Viagra alone.

5) Zinc
Siginificant depletion of the mineral zinc, associated with long-term use of diuretics, diabetes, digestive disorders, and certain kidney and liver diseases, has been shown to lead to erectile dysfunction.

Men should not be afraid or ashamed of having erectile dysfunction because nowadays, they have many options that can help them beat or overcome erectile dysfunction.
