L-Carnitine for Less Fat and More Muslce

Margaret Durst discusses how taking the amino acid l-carnitine can lead to less fat, more muscle and sharper mental focus..
L-carnitine is an amino acid that acts like a B vitamin. L-carnitine is made by the body from the amino acid l-lysine along with various vitamins and minerals. Its main function is to provide energy at the cellular level by transporting certain fatty acids to the cells.

L-carnitine increases the use of fat for energy. This helps prevent fatty buildup, especially in the heart, liver and skeletal muscles. L-carnitine lessens the risk of heart disorders, inhibits fatty liver and reduces certain health risks of diabetes.

There have been several, very positive studies on l-carnitine. These include reducing damage to the heart from heart surgery and reducing the pain caused by intermittent claudication, or artery blockages that reduce the supply of blood and oxygen to the legs. L-carnitine has also been shown to reduce heart arrhythmia. Another study showed that acetyl form of l-carnitine helped relieve neuropathy. Read more

5 Causes of Premature Ejaculation

According to the estimates of experts, around 30 percent of men suffer from premature ejaculation (PE). Occasional premature ejaculation, even in a healthy male, is not uncommon. However, if you are regularly experiencing this problem, knowing the causes of premature ejaculation may possibly be the first step to finding a solution. So, what causes premature ejaculation in apparently healthy males in the prime of their sexual lives?

Complicating any discussion of the causes of premature ejaculation is the fact that premature is a vague term. However, premature usually means that ejaculation occurs before at least one of the partners wants it to.Keeping that in mind, here are the five main causes of premature ejaculation:

1) Adolescent fear of discovery during masturbation sometimes establishes a habit of ejaculating quickly that can be difficult to break later in life.

2) Negative family attitude towards sex during your childhood may cause you to "rush" to complete sexual activity because you feel it is "dirty" or not permitted.

3) Erectile dysfunction, while itself usually a treatable physical condition, may create a feeling of need to "get it done" before you lose your erection.

4) Problems and worries about health, money, relationships, or any sort of stress in your life, may trigger an event or series of events.

5) Negative reactions from a sexual partner can also cause the problem in what would otherwise be a normally happy, sexually fulfilled male.

After reviewing the list of possible causes above, it's obvious that you can possibly deal with the problem yourself. If some negative experience has had an impact on your sexual performance, finding that and facing it may be all that is needed. If you are experiencing erectile dysfunction, getting that treated may help the problem. If you have a high level of stress, dealing with those problems or taking up some sort of relaxation process such as meditation might do the trick. On the other hand, The causes of premature ejaculation can be varied and intertwined. If you cannot figure it out or solve it by yourself and/ot with the help of your sexual partner, you may need to seek professional help.

Most people know that whole, natural foods are more nutritious than processed food, but many continue to eat processed foods anyway. What makes processed foods so attractive to consumers?

Head Off Common Ailments with Probiotics

Edward Group listls fourteen health benefits of probiotics.
... How does “Good” Bacteria Help Protect the Body from “Bad” Bacteria?

Resident beneficial bacteria appear to stimulate the production of a particular type of white blood cell, known as a neutrophil, which plays a large role in the human body’s natural ability to fight off foreign pathogens.

Not only do broad spectrum antibiotics kill off the infectious bacteria that causes illness, they also kill the harmless good bacteria as well. This essentially leads the neutrophils to enter a dormant state thereby slowing their response time when faced with a genuine threat. This gives invading bacteria an initial edge when it first enters the body. Read more

What You Need to Know about Iodine

Iodine has been in the news lately because of the radiation leaking from the earthquake-damaged nuclear reactors in Japan. Robert B. Kress, The Renegade Pharmacist, discusses what you need to know about iodine.
The devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan has led to fears of nuclear destruction and an increasing talk about iodine. It is important to understand that not all forms of iodine are the same, and different types of iodine will concentrate in different tissues and glands within the body.

In the event of a nuclear meltdown where radioactive iodine is released, potassium iodide is what is needed to protect the thyroid from the damaging effects of radioactive iodine. Potassium iodide has a strong affinity to the thyroid gland and will saturate the tissue preventing the absorption of the radioactive iodine. There are potassium iodide products that are made specifically for such a situation, which is why it is recommended to rely on such products and not to substitute with what could be far inferior products. One must use caution because the potassium iodide used for protection against radioactive iodine comes in an adult dosage of 130 mg (milligrams) tablets. Someone can mistakenly purchase a potassium iodide product off of a vitamin store shelf containing less than 200 mcg (micrograms), far less than what would be needed. Read more

Natural Care for Your Eyes

Margaret Durst discusses natural care for your eyes. Many good dietary supplements are on the market, but the buyer has to beware, she says.
Vision problems occur for various reasons. Many times the problem is due to poor diet. A diet of denatured and preservative laden food leads to the free radical damage that is implicated in many conditions affecting the eyes.

A deficiency of just one vitamin can lead to various eye problems that can sometimes be corrected with supplementation of the correct vitamins and minerals. Most of the products for eyes include antioxidants such as vitamin A, zinc, lutein and zeaxanthin. There are many good eye formulations on the market; however, the buyer has to beware. Read more

Sufficient Zinc Intake Eases Pneumonia in Elderly

The elderly are more susceptible to pneumonia than younger people. A new study by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) found that sufficient zinc intake helps alleviate pneumonia in the elderly.
Dietary zinc is a widely used essential mineral that is commonly found in a wide range of foods, over-the-counter health products and supplements. There’s a large body of scientific evidence which suggests that consuming the adequate amount of zinc daily helps supports the human body’s natural immune function.

A stroll through your local pharmacy will no doubt turn up dozens of various zinc-fortified items, such as throat lozenges and other general cold and flu remedies. Its popularity as an additive stems from the fact that zinc is believed to be a necessary catalyst for more than 100 enzymes produced by the body. Without access to these enzymes the immune system is unable to function at full strength. Read more

A Coffee a Day Cuts Stroke Risk by 25%

That cup of morning coffee can cut the risk of stroke and certain cancers, says David Derbyshire.
A morning caffeine fix might do more than perk you up – it could save your life.

Women who drink more than a cup of coffee a day can lower their risk of having a stroke by 25 per cent, research shows.

Those with little or no coffee intake, however, are more likely to suffer from the condition.

Is Vitamin D the Anti-Cancer Nutrient?

New research says that you need much more vitamin D than the medical establishment has been telling you to get.
The reign of censorship and suppression against vitamin D is now coming to an end. Even though the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and many institutions leading the cancer industry (including the ACS) have intentionally tried to downplay the ability of vitamin D to prevent cancer, a new study appearing in the journal Anticancer Research lays out the simple, powerful truth about vitamin D that we've been teaching at NaturalNews for years: A typical adults needs 4,000-8,000 IUs of vitamin D each day to prevent cancer, MS and type-1 diabetes, not the ridiculously low 400-800 IUs recommended by the U.S. government. Eating Red Meat Is Good for You

Another nutrition myth has been debunked by researchers. It turns out that red meat is good for you after all.
After years of worrying that tucking into red meat could lead to a heart attack or cancer, you can relax and enjoy the Sunday roast, say researchers.

A report demolishes the ‘myths and misconceptions’ about the meat, saying that most people eat healthy amounts which are not linked to greater risk of disease.

Modern farming methods have cut fat levels, which can be even lower than chicken, while red meat provides high levels of vital nutrients, including iron.

A vegetarian having a Cheddar cheese salad will eat seven times more fat, pound for pound, than lean red meat contains, says a review by the British Nutrition Foundation. Read more

Is Eating Too Much Protein Harmful to Your Kidneys?

Is eating too much protein going to harm your kidneys? That's a ridiculous idea, says Mark Sisson.
Dear Mark,

I am studying to become a nurse and am taking my first nutrition class at a local college. As one of our assignments we had to record everything we ate for an entire week. After looking at my results my teacher was dumbfounded. To make a long story short, my teacher told me that I should only be eating 38 grams of protein each day, and that any more than that could harm my kidneys. I've been Primal for 2 years and am healthier than ever. I am 5'2" and a very lean 105 pounds. Should I be concerned?

Renee

Well, Renee, I'm sorry to break it to you, but all those subjective health markers – like being "healthier than ever," a "very lean 105 pounds," and satisfied enough to be "Primal for 2 years" – mean absolutely nothing because you are destroying your kidneys by exceeding your daily allotment of six ounces of animal protein. In fact, it's highly likely that feeling good and maintaining a trim, lean figure are byproducts of impending kidney failure. The human body, you see, is a cruel practical joker dead set on destroying itself (hence the daily internal manufacturing of that poison known as cholesterol); it's only trying to keep you pacified with regards to your health long enough for outright kidney failure to commence. You should be extremely concerned. I only hope this message reaches you in time. Read more
